Canucks to retire Henrik and Daniel Sedin’s jerseys in February

Watch as Gary Bettman brings out Henrik and Daniel Sedin in an attempt to appease the Vancouver crowd.

The Vancouver Canucks will retire Henrik and Daniel Sedin’s jerseys in February 2020 as part of a weeklong celebration to honour their careers.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman made the announcement Friday night at the NHL Draft in Vancouver with the twin brothers on stage with him.

“This is a tremendous honour that we couldn’t have ever dreamt of when we first came to Vancouver as 18-year-olds,” Henrik said in a statement. “To have our banners next to Stan, Trevor, Markus and Pavel’s is a tremendous honour and very humbling.”

The celebrations will take place over three consecutive home games and specific dates will be announced along with the Canucks’ regular-season schedule.

Daniel and Henrik Sedin were drafted second and third, respectively, by Vancouver at the 1999 NHL draft.

Henrik would go on to captain the team and become the club’s all-time leader in assists (830), points (1,070) and games played (1,330). Daniel sits atop the Canucks’ goals list (393) and ranks second in each of the other categories.

Vancouver also announced Friday that it will induct former forward Alex Burrows into the team’s “ring of honour” this season.

Burrows signed as a free agent with the Canucks in 2005 after not being drafted into the NHL. He went on to play 13 seasons with Vancouver and the Ottawa Senators, racking up 409 career points.
