Flyers trade forward Wayne Simmonds to Predators

HC panel discusses Nashville GM David Poile making another deadline day statement, acquiring both Wayne Simmonds and Mikael Granlund to add the spark needed.

The Philadelphia Flyers have traded forward Wayne Simmonds to the Nashville Predators.

In return, the Flyers receive forward Ryan Hartman and a conditional fourth-round pick in 2020.

The 30-year-old Simmonds has spent the past eight seasons in Philadelphia after logging three years with the Los Angeles Kings. He’s finished above or near the 30-goal plateau six times during his 11-year career, topping out at 32 tallies in 2015-16. Through 62 games this season, the Mississauga, Ont., native has 16 goals and 27 points to his name.

He’s also suited up for 42 playoff games over the course of his career, posting 21 points in the post-season.

Simmonds is playing out the final season of the six-year, $23.85-million deal he signed with the Flyers in 2012, which carries an annual cap hit of $3.975 million. He’s set to become an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of the 2018-19 campaign.
