Super 16: Flames enter top 10

The movement in the Super 16 power rankings comes after the top five teams this week.

The Nashville Predators, Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins and Winnipeg Jets are again the top five, in that order, but four teams moved up the power rankings, three dropped, one stayed the same, and three teams joined the party, knocking three others out.
The Calgary Flames got the biggest bump, moving up five spots to No. 7. The Pittsburgh Penguins had the biggest drop, moving down four spots to No. 10.
To create the power rankings, each of the 13 participating staff members put together his or her version of what they think the Super 16 should look like. Those are submitted and a point total is assigned to each.
The team picked first is given 16 points, second gets 15, third gets 14 and so on down to No. 16, which gets one point.
Here is latest Super 16, with some news and notes to follow for each team:

1. Nashville Predators (11-3-0)

Total points: 204
Last week: No. 1
Hit: The Predators are 7-0-0 on the road this season after winning at the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday.
Miss:Forward Viktor Arvidsson (lower body) has missed three games and is on injured reserve.

2. Tampa Bay Lightning (11-3-1)

Total points: 199
Last week: No. 2
Hit: Brayden Point already has five multipoint games this season. The forward leads the Lightning with nine goals and 19 points and is tied for the lead with 10 assists.
Miss:DefensemanVictor Hedman (upper body) and forward Ondrej Palat (lower body) have missed the past six games.

3. Toronto Maple Leafs (10-5-0)

Total points: 173
Last week: No. 3
Hit:The Maple Leafs have allowed six goals in the four games they've played since forward Auston Matthews (shoulder) was put on injured reserve. They have scored eight goals in winning their past two games.
Miss:Toronto lost four of its previous five home games before defeating the Vegas Golden Knights 3-1 at Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday.

4. Boston Bruins (8-4-2)

Total points: 155
Last week: No. 4
Hit: The Bruins have scored two power-play goals in four of their past six games (8-for-22).
Miss: They have scored four even-strength goals in their past six games.

5. Winnipeg Jets (8-5-1)

Total points: 151
Last week: No. 5
Hit: The Jets are in the middle of a six-day break between games, time they're using to rest and reacclimate themselves to the Central time zone after a weeklong trip to Finland for the 2018 NHL Global Series games against the Florida Panthers.
Miss:Forward Brendan Lemieux won't be in the lineup when the Jets get back at it against the Colorado Avalanche at Bell MTS Place on Friday. Lemieux is suspended for two games for an illegal check to the head of Panthers forward Vincent Trocheck in a 4-2 loss in Helsinki on Friday.

6. San Jose Sharks (8-4-3)

Total points: 150

Hit:The Sharks are 23-for-24 on the penalty kill in their past nine games. Their streak of eight consecutive games without allowing a power-play goal ended Tuesday, when Zach Parise scored for the Minnesota Wild in a 4-3 San Jose victory. The Sharks are third in the NHL on the PK (86.5 percent).
Miss:Forward Tomas Hertl missed the game against the Wild because of a concussion. He's day to day.

7. Calgary Flames (9-6-1)

Total points: 119
Last week: No. 12
Hit:The Flames are outscoring the opposition 31-12 in the third period and overtime.
Miss:They are being outscored 21-9 in the second period.

8. Colorado Avalanche (7-5-3)

Total points: 101
Last week: No. 7
Hit:Tyson Barrie needs one point to move into second place on Colorado's all-time list for points by a defenseman. He has 259, tied with Adam Foote for second and 16 points behind John Michael Liles' record (275). Barrie needs two assists to join Liles (207) and Foote (203) as the only defensemen in Colorado/Quebec Nordiques history with at least 200 assists.
Miss:Forwards J.T. Compher (head), Tyson Jost (head) and Sven Andrighetto (lower body) are all on injured reserve. Compher has missed 10 games. Jost has missed four and Andrighetto three.

9. Minnesota Wild (8-4-2)

Total points: 100
Last week: No. 10
Hit:The Wild have allowed 38 shots on goal in their past two games after giving up 34.8 per game in their first 12. A big reason is they've been on the penalty kill once in the past two games. They averaged 4.4 times on the PK in their first 12.
Miss:They've allowed the first goal in 10 of their 14 games.

10. Pittsburgh Penguins (6-5-3)

Total points: 76
Last week: No. 6
Hit:Jamie Oleksiak played in his 200th NHL game Wednesday. The defenseman has eight points (four goals, four assists), giving him 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists) in 60 games since the Penguins acquired him in a trade with the Dallas Stars on Dec. 19.
Miss:The Penguins have lost four in a row at home, including the past three in regulation by a combined 16-4.

11. Washington Capitals (7-4-3)

Total points: 75

Hit:The Capitals, who were first in the NHL on the power play entering play Wednesday (36.6 percent), are 7-1-2 this season when they score at least one power-play goal and 0-3-1 when they don't.
Miss:Defenseman Brooks Orpik has missed four games with a lower-body injury, including a 2-1 win against the Penguins on Wednesday.

12. New York Islanders (8-4-2)

Total points: 71

Hit:Thomas Greiss and Robin Lehner have combined for a .935 save percentage.
Miss:Anthony Beauvillier has struggled with one point, a goal, and a minus-6 rating in 13 games despite playing in the top six forwards.

13. Montreal Canadiens (8-5-2)

Total points: 60
Last week: No. 13
Hit: Max Domi has scored in four straight games. He has nine goals in 15 games this season, matching his goal output from each of the past two seasons. He scored nine goals in 82 games last season and nine in 59 games in 2016-17, each with the Arizona Coyotes.
Miss: Carey Price has allowed 13 goals on 99 shots in his past three starts (.869 save percentage).

14. Vancouver Canucks (9-6-1)

Hit:Elias Pettersson is on pace to score 76 goals this season.
Miss:Loui Eriksson has scored one goal in 16 games this season.

Hit:Anthony Duclair is making good on his latest opportunity with six goals in 15 games. The forward scored 11 goals in 55 games last season, including two in 23 games and none in his last 14 with the Chicago Blackhawks after they acquired him in a trade with the Coyotes on Jan. 10.
Miss:Columbus is 3-for-41 on the power play (7.3 percent) in its past 11 games.

16. Dallas Stars (8-6-1)

Hit:Jamie Benn has scored in three of his past four games after going seven straight games without one.
Miss: Tyler Seguin's streak without a goal has reached 12 games, tying the longest goalless streak of his NHL career (Jan. 4-25, 2014).
