Kevan Miller will be out five weeks for the Boston Bruins because of a cartilage injury to his larynx.

The 31-year-old defenseman was injured during a 4-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena on Monday when a shot by Maple Leafs center John Tavares at 17:44 of the first period ricocheted off his stick and hit him in the throat. Miller was taken to a hospital and a CT scan revealed the injury, which was confirmed when he returned to Boston.
The Bruins played Monday without injured defensemen Zdeno Chara (knee), Charlie McAvoy (concussion), Brandon Carlo (upper body) and Urho Vaakanainen (concussion). Miller was in his fourth game back after missing 13 games with a hand injury.
