Notables
* The Pens face the Avs for the final time this season, and 2nd time in a week. Pittsburgh suffered a 6-3 setback in Colorado last Wednesday.
* Colorado built a 3-0 lead until Pens captain Sidney Crosby recorded a natural hat trick, including 2 goals in the final minute of the 2nd period, to even the score. But the Avs prevailed in the end.
* Crosby has 5 goals in his last 3 games. He has 13 points (9G-4A) in 13 career games against Colorado.
* Defenseman Marcus Pettersson could make his debut with the Pens tonight. He was acquired on Monday from Anaheim in exchange for Daniel Sprong. He was a 2nd-round pick (38th overall) in 2014.
* Pittsburgh's penalty killing unit has gone 8-straight games without allowing a power-play goal (15-15). The franchise record is 10 games.
* The Avalanche are 9-0-2 in their last 11 games.
* Colorado's Nate MacKinnon posted 4 points (1G-3A) against Pittsburgh in the Avs win. He paces the club with 19 goals.
* Mikko Rantanen leads the NHL scoring race with 45 points (11G-34A).
* Avs goalie Semyon Varlamov posted a 24-save shutout of Detroit on Sunday.
