A Circle is very similar to Facebook's Groups or Reddit's SubReddits. It's a collection of posts collated by a common theme. You can create and join private groups where the moderators can invite you and the content is private, or public groups where anyone can participate. You can subscribe and unsubscribe from Circles to choose what you see in your main news feed.
