Chytil scores in fourth straight game to help Rangers defeat Stars

NEW YORK --Filip Chytil scored for the fourth straight game when the New York Rangers extended their home winning streak to six games with a 2-1 victory against the Dallas Stars at Madison Square Garden on Monday.

Jimmy Vesey scored and Henrik Lundqvist made 16 saves for the Rangers (11-8-2), who have won eight of their past 10 games (8-1-1).
"I feel much more confident after every game," Chytil said. "The first 17 games when I didn't score a goal, I didn't have confidence. But now after the first goal, it's more and more and we are winning and I can help the team with goals."

Ben Bishop made 12 saves for the Stars (11-8-2) but left the game after the second period because of a lower-body injury and is considered day to day, according to coach Jim Montgomery. Anton Khudobin made nine saves in the third.
"That's a game you want to get at least one point out of," Stars forward Tyler Seguin said. "We just have to find a way to grind one out there, especially in the third."

Chytil gave the Rangers a 2-1 lead with a wrist shot at 4:32 of the third period. It was his fourth straight game with a goal and the first game-winning goal of his NHL career.
"We all knew right away [Chytil] was extremely skilled," Lundqvist said. "We saw that from Day One. ... We are starting to see what he can do at crucial times of the game. Players like that with an extremely high skill level can be the difference maker a lot of nights."
Seguin gave the Stars a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 2:17 of the second period. It was one of 10 shots on goal Dallas had after the first period.
Vesey tied the game at 1-1 when he scored on a no-look backhander while falling to the ice at 9:38 of the second.

The Stars' top line of Seguin, Jamie Benn and Alexander Radulov had one point and three shots on goal after it combined for nine points (three goals, six assists) and 11 shots on goal in a 6-2 win at the New York Islanders on Sunday.
"We were obviously aware of [their top line]," Rangers forward Mika Zibanejad said. "It's a matchup and you take pride in that matchup against the best in the League. It's a fun challenge to play against those guys every night. ... They didn't create too much."
The 17 shots on goal were the fewest this season for the Stars.
"I thought we played 20 minutes of hockey and the first was our best, and after that it really just went downhill," Benn said. "We followed that up with a terrible second and then they get one in the third and that's the game."

Rangers forward Mats Zuccarello missed his second straight game and fifth in the past six because of a lower-body injury. ... Rangers center Brett Howden had an assist and leads NHL rookies in games with a point with 11. ... The Stars' previous low for shots on goal in a game this season was 19 in a 2-1 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Nov. 1. ... The Rangers are outscoring opponents 21-10 during the home winning streak.
