The Pittsburgh Penguins were in Vancouver prior to their game against the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena on Saturday when they heard the news of a mass shooting in Pittsburgh.

"We woke up to that terrible news this morning, and our thoughts and prayers are with all the victims and families affected by what happened," Penguins captain Sidney Crosby said. "Knowing Pittsburgh, I know that we will stick together and rally around them and be there for help and support them in any way we can."
The shooting occurred at Tree of Life synagogue in the eastern part of Pittsburgh on Saturday morning. Multiple people were killed and wounded, and a suspect has been arrested, according to reports.
Crosby expressed belief that the city would unite in the face of tragedy.
"The biggest thing to me is just the people. Just very proud people, proud of their city, proud to help in any way they can, whatever it is," Crosby said. "Just a great community, a great city and a place that I feel pretty fortunate to be able to live."
Said Penguins coach Mike Sullivan: "I just wanted to say on behalf of the Penguins organization, we just want to express our condolences, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the tragedy in Pittsburgh that took place today."
The Penguins joined the city's other professional sports teams in expressing their condolences on social media.
"We are incredibly saddened to hear of this morning's tragedy at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh," the Penguins said on Twitter. "We send our thoughts and prayers to all those affected."
The Penguins end a four-game road trip against the Canucks and will return home after the game. They host the New York Islanders at PPG Paints Arena on Tuesday.
