TBL@CBJ: Point bags PPG 12 seconds into the 3rd

Andrei Vasilevskiy came within 1:45 of a setting a Lightning record with a third straight shutout before Lukas Sedlak made it 5-1. Vasilevskiy made 39 saves.
"On a night when the team's not at its best, a big-time player came to play, and our goaltender kept us in," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. "We felt pretty fortunate to get two points tonight."
The Lightning (45-11-4) won their sixth straight. They are 16 points ahead of the Boston Bruins for first place in the Atlantic Division.

TBL@CBJ: Stamkos nets Kucherov's feed for PPG

In the first period, the Blue Jackets outshot the Lightning 20-6, won 17 of 20 face-offs, and killed a penalty against the top-ranked power play in the NHL (30.3 percent), but they trailed 2-0 on two goals by Kucherov.
"We had a really good first period. We definitely dominated that period," Columbus forward Kole Sherwood said. "They got two lucky bounces and capitalized on them."
Kucherov scored with a backhand shot to the right post to make it 1-0 at 11:18 off a 2-on-1 pass from Yanni Gourde after a Blue Jackets turnover.
On his second goal, he stole the puck from Nick Foligno in the neutral zone and scored unassisted to give Tampa Bay a 2-0 lead at 14:24.
"I'm frustrated for the team," Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella said. "Our first period was probably our best period of hockey we've played all year long. I'm not crazy about Nick's turnover. Again, you just can't lose your patience in a game like that.
"You're down 2-0 after the way we played, you still have to stick with it."

TBL@CBJ: Vasilevskiy pads away deflection in front

Steven Stamkos made it 3-0 at 19:31 of the second when he scored his 33rd goal on a 5-on-3 power play.
Point scored on the power play 12 seconds into the third to make it 4-0 and again at even strength at 46 seconds to make it 5-0.
"Those two goals decided the game," Sedlak said. "We felt good going in the third that we could win that game, but those two goals, that can't happen."
The Lightning have outscored opponents 31-9 during their winning streak and are 8-0-2 in their past 10 games.
This is the first time in Lightning history they've had two double-digit point streaks in a season. They were 15-0-1 from Nov. 29-Jan. 3.
Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman did not play after the first period because of a lower-body injury. There was no update after the game.

"We got a couple of scoring chances, but we didn't get anything special in the offensive zone. We didn't get that many grade A chances, but we still have to score." -- Blue Jackets forward Lukas Sedlak on not scoring despite having 20 shots on goal in the first period
