The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed defenceman Kevin Shattenkirk to a one-year, $1.75-million deal, the club announced Monday.

The 30-year-old was bought out by the New York Rangers on Thursday after two seasons with his hometown club. The New Rochelle, N.Y. native posted 28 points through 73 games for the Rangers in 2018-19, skating an average of 18:56 minutes per night.

He amassed a career-high 56 points just two seasons ago, splitting that 2016-17 season between the St. Louis Blues and Washington Capitals.

This isn’t the first time the Lightning have sought out Shattenkirk’s services — the club tried to trade for the veteran in 2017, but saw the deal vetoed.

The Lightning are no strangers to adding former Rangers to the mix — last season alone, Tampa Bay sent five former Rangers over the boards, with J.T. Miller, Ryan McDonagh, Ryan Callahan, Anton Stralman and Dan Girardi all in the fold.
