Panthers trade Derick Brassard to Avalanche

Derick Brassard is being given a good opportunity in Colorado and the Avalanche have a great insurance guy for the second line.

Derick Brassard is on the move yet again.

The forward was traded by the Florida Panthers to the Colorado Avalanche Monday ahead of the 2019 NHL Trade Deadline.

Florida is receiving a 2020 third-round draft pick in return.

Brassard was sent from the Penguins to the Panthers earlier this month as part of a four-player trade, which occurred less than one year after he was flipped to Pittsburgh from Ottawa.

The 31-year-old struggled offensively with the Penguins and managed one goal and three assists in 10 games with the Panthers. He is a pending unrestricted free agent with a salary cap hit of $3 million – his full cap hit is $5 million but Vegas is on the hook for $2 million.

This is the fifth time Brassard has been traded in his NHL career.
