Rangers’ Chris Kreider suffers fractured foot vs. Flyers

New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider fractured his foot after blocking a one-time blast from Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Philippe Myers.

New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider suffered a fractured foot in the first period of Friday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers and will not return, according to an announcement from the team.

The injury was sustained while Kreider was blocking a shot from Flyers defenceman Phillipe Myers, Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Sam Carchidi tweeted.

Kreider, 28, was viewed as one of the hottest commodities of this past Monday’s NHL trade deadline — but he signed a seven-year extension worth $45.5 million within hours of the deadline.

In 62 games this year, Kreider has 24 goals and 45 points.

Entering Friday, the red-hot Rangers had won five-straight games (and nine of 10) and sat only two points outside an Eastern Conference playoff spot with two games in hand.
