Stars’ Polak has full use of extremities after being stretchered off ice

Roman Polak was stretchered off the ice after taking an unfortunate spill into the boards as the Stars opened their season against the Bruins.

Dallas Stars defenceman Roman Polak has full use of his extremities and is feeling better at the hospital, according to Stars coach Jim Montgomery.

“The good news is Roman has full use of his extremities and we feel he’s pretty good at the hospital,” Montgomery said during his post-game press conference. “But we don’t have results yet. We’re hopeful he may be a player in a couple days.”

With 12:56 remaining in the second period of Thursday night’s game against the Boston Bruins, Polak went head-first into the boards after trying to check Chris Wagner.

Polak was all-but motionless while face down on the ice before being put onto a stretcher and taken for evaluation at a hospital.

No further details about the specifics of Polak’s injury, the severity, or how long he may be sidelined are available at this time.

In 77 games with the Stars last season, the 33-year-old scored one goal and added eight assists.
