The Montreal Canadiens have landed one of the bigger names left on the free agent market, signing forward Tyler Toffoli to a four-year, $17 million contract.

According to Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston, the contract doesn’t include any signing bonuses or trade restrictions.

Toffoli, 28, split last season between the Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks, scoring 24 goals and 44 points. He added four points in seven playoff games for the Canucks.

A member of the 2014 Stanley Cup champion Kings, Toffoli has 145 goals and 300 points in 525 games over eight seasons.

The signing is the latest move in a busy off-season for Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin and puts the Canadiens slightly above the salary cap ceiling of $81.5 million. So far this off-season, Montreal has traded for goalie Jake Allen, defenceman Joel Edmundson and winger Josh Anderson.
